Zona Maco: Luis López-Chávez, Matthew Eguavoen, Abdoulaye Konaté, José Manuel Mesías

We are pleased to announce our participation at Zona Maco. The fair will run from 7 February - 11 February  2024. Bode will present at booth D113 with artists Luis López-Chávez, Matthew Eguavoen, Abdoulaye Konaté and José Manuel Mesías, 

Luis López-Chávez (b. 1988 in Manzanillo, CU) graduated from the Professional Academy of Plastic Arts in Manzanillo in 2007 and, in 2013,  from the Higher Institute of Art in Havana. In 2012, he received a scholarship for the Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm, Sweden. In 2015, he participated at the 12th Havana Biennial in the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Havana. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, among others at the Unión Nacional de Arquitectos e Ingenieros de la Construcción de Cuba (UNAICC), the Centro Hiospanoamericano de Cultura, Havana and the Kungl. Konsthögskolan/The Royal Institute of Art. Stockholm in Sweden. Luis López-Chavez lives and works in Havanna, Cuba.


Matthew Eguavoen (b. 1988 in Edo State, NG) attended the University of Port Harcourt, NG, where he attained a BA in Engineering for Civil Engineering and Structures. In his final year at the university, Matthew decided to pursue his passion for creating art through self-study, where he continued his artistic development. His recent solo exhibitions include shows at PM/AM, London, UK and at Afrikaris, Paris, FR. Eguavoen has participated at group exhibitions at Bode, Berlin, DE; Kunsthalle Krems, Krems, AT; OOA Gallery, London, UK; Nothing at All, Hong Kong, CN; Afrikaris, Paris, FR; PM/AM, London, UK: What if the World Gallery, Cape Town, ZA; Ada Accra Gallery, Accra, GH; Mitochondria Gallery, Houston TX, US, among others. His works are featured in collections across West Africa, Europe, and North America. Matthew Eguavoen currently lives and works in Lagos, NG.


Abdoulaye Konaté (b. 1953 in Diré, Manila) studied painting at the Institut National des Arts de Bamako and Instituto Superior de Arte, Havana, CU. In 2008 he was nominated for the Artes Mundi 3 prize, Cardiff. He received the prestigious Léopold Sédar Senghor Prize at the Dak’Art Biennale in Dakar, the Officier de l'Ordre National du Mali, as well as the  Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres de France. He is the Founding General Director of the Conservatoire des Arts et Métiers Multimédia Balla Fasseké Kouyaté in Bamako. He has exhibited at Documenta 12 in Kassel, Germany, the Stiftung Museum in Kunstpalast, Dusseldorf; Hayward Gallery in London, the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, and the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo. More recently his work was shown at the Museum für Moderne Kunst in Frankfurt, SCAD Museum of Art in Savannah, Georgia, and the National Museum of African Art at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington. Recent solo exhibitions include a retrospective at Arken Museum for Moderne Kunst in Denmark and Symphonie en Couleur at Blain in Southern London.


José Manuel Mesías (b. 1990 in Havana, CU) graduated from the National Academy of Fine Arts „San Alejandro“ in Havana in 2009. The artist completed a residency at Instituto de Arte de Akita in Akita, at Art Dubái, and at Azkuna Zentroa. His work has been featured in solo exhibitions at Bode, Berlin, DE (2023), at the 13th Havana Biennial, Art Dubai, Factoría Habana, and Mindy Solomon Gallery, among others. Jose Manuel Mesias participated in group show at Havana National Museum of Fine Arts, Galleria Continua, Centro de Arte Contemporáneo Wifredo, Azkuna Zentroa, 7th Salon of Contemporary Cuban Art, among others. Jose Manuel Mesias lives and works in Havana, CU.
